Hey everyone, and thanks for your help in advance.
I'm using a Macbook, the lowest model in the product line. My problem is with my wireless connection. I can connect to my router, I get full signal strength and everything works great. But every hour my wireless will connect-reconnect-connect-reconnect for about 30sec-1min. I can see the little bars on my airport status go from full, nothing, full, nothing, full, nothing every 3-6 seconds.
After about 1minute I will have a full connection again and in another hour this process will repeat.
When I'm surfing the net it doesn't bother me, but I play a few online games and it really disrupts the play.
Anyone ever experience this and have any idea how to fix it?
there are a few things you could try
1-do you have any 2.4 ghz phones around your computer? if so, move 'em to another room
2) try doing a hard reset on the airport base station, and change the channel in the airport utility, scan for base stations first
3) check for software updates
4) run something like onyX or techtool
Hey John, thanks for the reply.
I don't have a 2.4 ghz phone anywhere near my computer - but I do live in an appartment building and it could be the people above or below me. But that means they are getting a call every hour, sometimes twice an hour. They must be popular people.
I have tried a hard reset of the base station, I have even unplugged it, reset it, and re-configured the entire wireless set up from scratch twice already. Still the same problems.
I will try changing the channel on my wireless station right now and see if that helps.
As far as software updates, its all up to date.
I have never heard of OnyX of Techtool, I'll look into those.
I have the same problem with my MacBook, and I think it may be a problem with leopard. I did a google search and it seems that it is quite common in both MacBooks and MacBook Pros. Hopefully it will be fixed in 10.5.3
You might find AirTrafficControl useful to find out what channels any other networks around are using and then set your own as far away from them as possible. There are some known airport connectivity with 10.5.* - like Josh said, bring on 10.5.3..............

I changed my channle on my router from Channel 6 to Channel 1, so far I think I've fixed it.
So for those of you that have the problem try changing the router channel.
I'll let you know if it ends up not working again.
I changed my channle on my router from Channel 6 to Channel 1, so far I think I've fixed it.
Many routers come preset to Channel 6, so they can interfere with each other. The first thing to try is changing the channel. Sometimes turning a router a quarter turn will result in a more favourable signal pattern, especially on ones with two antennas, but this not usually a problem if the router is fairly nearby.
You could also sniff around to see if someone is stealing the signal, and perhaps fooling with the router from remote...
I was having some problems with my wireless signal too. (we just moved to a new house) I took the advice and changed the channel ... we are now running at supersonic speed, what a difference.
Signal is also consistently strong and no varying up and down anymore.
Thanks
