Running too hot/Sleep issue/

Hey

my MBPRO seems to be running realllllly hot on the left side of my computer.. is this unusual, or a normal thing? Im not doing anything special, just using safari and mail and adium!

Also, when I walk away from my computer for a bit, even tho my settings are set to NOT go to a screen saver or go to sleep for about 2 hours... my computer screen goes to black. When I try to wake it up, it literally is unresponsive and I end up having to do a hard shutdown...

anyone know whats up!

First off, download and install Temperature Monitor and post the readings for the processor, battery and graphics card. Let's see how "hot" it's actually running. Your screen going to black is a bit worrying.

Your temps are within acceptable operating range, but a little warm. I assume the MBP is still under warranty and should be looked at by an Apple Authorized Service person. Of course, you could try a complete clean install of the operating system, in order to rule out a software problem. My gut tells me it's hardware related. You don't happen to have any processes running in the background, do you? Quit everything and launch Activity Monitor to confirm. Click on the CPU tab to indicate the highest processor usage at the top of the list.

Nope..nothing else is running in activity monitor EXCEPT activity monitor!!!

Sometimes it just feels super hot, but ill get it checked out. The blacking out of the screen freaks me out considering this was a replacement I had to fight for, so im not too anxious to go through that process again!!!

I did a whole erase and install just a few weeks ago too, btw

You don't have to return to the same authorized retailer, if you've had a bad experience. Another would be obligated to provide warranty service. If you want, feel free to contact me to discuss further;

What is you RAM setup? Did you change memory? Your symptoms sound like mine when I had bad RAM - hot, sleep issues, random spontaneous restarts, etc., etc. I bought "matched, compatible" RAM (2x 1gig OWC) and then the trouble started. Everything was good with the stock 512meg. everything good after I added 1gig Kingston from CanadaRAM.

Well as a user of a 15" MBP I would have to say it is NOT normal.
I've posted a photo of my temperatures as they are most of the time, during normal moderate use.
Notice my hard disk (30deg C), this is located in the area of your MBP (left side) that you feel the heat in.
