disk image won't mount

Hi all,
i am new here tonight.
I am trying to watch a movie on my mac - first through quick time which said that i needed a codec to watch avi movies... I tried the download of divXinstaller.dmg - i got the window," disk image won't mount" - i then tried Mplayer, and others, including an upgrade of real player and all arrive at the same error, ... disk image won't mount.
i tied to open it in disk utility and also, cannot do it from there.

any thoughts.
thanks so much. I really just want to watch a movie...

Hi, VLC player works great for avi, as does the flip4mac plugin (I think it's available as part of the WIndows media player download, but I can't remember). Try those (google them, they are free). The only reason I can think your disk image won't mount is if you don't have read/write permission on your desktop.

Click on your desktop and get info (command i). Click on the grey triangle next to sharing & permissions and see if you can read/write to the desktop.

Hope this helps.
