Time Machine Makes Large backup after initial backup

Last evening I made an initial backup with Time Machine. Took about 30 gigs. This morning Time Machine made another large backup of about 17 gigs. It's filling up my backup disk real fast. I know it will dump the oldest backup but I wonder if this normal behaviour for Time Machine. I've searched to try to find an answer but to no avail. Perhaps someone her may know if this is normal or not. Thx for your help.
