Loose MacBook USB port

Does anyone know whether a loose USB port on a MacBook can develop into a problem? The device plugged in was jerked down, and now the port feels loose, and wiggles up and down a few millimetres in each direction. It is the only port with this much movement.

Just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem, or knew what I should do.

Thanks,

Max

Both USB ports on my new (November) MBP are sloppy. When any USB device is plugged in, in either port, it wiggles a few mms in every direction. At first I worried about it, but have used many devices with no problems. It appears like it is sloppy manufacturing compared to previous laptops that the plug fit firmly with no wiggle.

Sounds like the soldering is coming loose, tell the "jerk" who unplugged it they're going to have to pay for a new MacBook next time that happens.

Don't aggravate the condition. If it's working, continue to use it but BE GENTLE plugging and unplugging. If it fails, you're going to want to have the name of a known-good soldering Mac Tech on speed-dial. AppleCare MIGHT fix it if it fails, but don't bet the ranch on it.
