Can Anyone Explain This File?
Yesterday my daughter's MacBook suddenly showed the 200G HD as full with only 1G left.
I finally did an erase and install to fix the problem as nothing else worked.
But now a strange file showed up before the re-install and keeps showing up in the trash after the install and I can't get rid of it.
Can anyone explain what this thing is and did it have anything to do with our problem? And how do I get rid of it?

Download
BatChmod and use the Force Empty trash in the menu.
That file is just garbage from an automatic recovery system used by OS X. These files used to be dumped automatically, but since the last Tiger version and now Leopard, they show up in folders called Recovered.
It is probably a damaged, locked file and force emptying the trash will solve it.

Well, I downloaded and tried BatChmod with no success. The file still winds up in the trash.
Before that I had tried the long time fix of holding down the option key while emptying the trash without success either.
If I drag it out of the trash to the desktop, it disappears, but returns each time I deposit something in the trash.
Anyone else have any ideas?

At your own risk -
Make sure you are in the .Trash sub-directory before issuing the rm command
1. Open Terminal
2. Issue the commands
Quote:
cd ~/.Trash
sudo rm -r -f *
use your password when prompted (assuming the login account is set as an Administrator.

Also while you are in terminal, can you issue the command
Quote:
ls -al ~ | grep .Trash
and post back the result? That may help in determining the current owner and permission to the Trash directory.
