Airport express performance issues

I've owned an airport express router for about 8 or 9 months now, and overall, I've been happy with it. Over the past 3 months or so, I've been having some issues while surfing the 'net. Surfing is INCREDIBLY slow, and in several cases, pages won't respond at all. In the meantime, I've upgraded from a PC (which had a wireless b-card in it) to a dual G5 with an airport extreme (wirless g)--if anything, the problem got worse with the G5. In many cases, I need to press "stop", and then hit refresh, and then the page will load. In some cases, I have to do it several times.

I've also noticed differences between browsers- on my old PC, when IE would start getting slow or not responding, Firefox would work just fine. Now, on my mac, Firefox is the unresponsive/slow one, and safari seems to be marginally better.

One interesting thing is that my download speeds are fine- I get the 3-5 meg speeds that Rogers claims to provide. In several cases, however, in order to download something, I need to restart the downloads two or three times before they "click in" and go. istat shows 0-7kb/s in/out most of the time, while surfing, which is ridiculous.

I have taken the AE in to the Apple store, and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I've done power cycles, tried different encryption, but it was all to no avail.

Does anyone have any solutions to this odd issue?

Thanks!

It's possible that an adjacent wireless network is transmitting on the same channel as you. Try changing your AE four channels away from what it is currently (from 1 to 4, or, 4 to 8, for example). Ideally it's best to be four channels away from a more robust wireless signal that is in the vicinity. This is especially helpful for condo and apartment dwellers, where another network could be as little as just a few feet away. A 2.4 Ghz cordless phone will also cause big problems with your signal.

Anyway, changing channels is just one thing that's worth a try. Lets see what others have to add. Oh, and welcome to ehMac!
