The site is called "Elegant Universe", and I'd love to have a copy that I can use to stream to my xbox 360 or make a DVD out of. It's a television program that you can watch for free on the web about parallel universes and what not. (string theory)
I believe the site has locked the ability to save using quicktime pro, (can't test this as I don't have pro.)
There is a thread which Vexel contributed to somewhere on ehmac.ca (blast if I can find it now) which had instructions which didn't seem to work for this case.
Anyone want to try their luck at this conundrum? Or are there just some sites which are very well protected from saving streaming info?
create a new text file (Text Edit works fine, but make sure its set for Plain Text, not Rich Text) and copy and paste the html code below.
Quote:
<html>
<head><title>Movie File</title>
</head>
<body>
<a href="http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/media2/eu-doubled.mov">Right-click me and Save As...</a>
</body>
</html>
Open the file in your browser, right-click (or control-click) the link and choose Save or download or whatever the option is and it should start downloading for you.
Trev
Edited: Forgot to mention, save the file with a .html extension and THEN open it in your browser.

That doesn't work for me, Trev. It only downloads the .mov which appears to only be the container for the .flv file that runs in the background. There's no linking to the actual movie file in the source code that I can find either.
I guess we'll chalk this site up to the impossible to save? I could use Mississauga's Snapz Pro suggestion (if it will work for this), but I'm a starving student, and I'm not about to pay $69.00 US to find out whether it will work or not. Oh well!
Leave it to me to find the one site you can't rip from.
