Daughter's MacBook battery icon at top of screen has an X in it... shows no other data when selected. When you unplug the charger the computer dies. I assume the battery is dead?
She has tried different chargers. Restarted etc. All updates are up to date. Repaired permissions.
I sent my MacBook battery back to Apple three times before I found one that adequately held its charge. I recommend running a freeware application called cocoanutBattery (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19085) which tracks and logs your battery's charge. It's what I used in making my case to Apple.
The battery is defective. Get an AASP to order you a replacement.
