when I open PP to view images sent to my mail address. The images open, show and then when I try to escape or quit I get the spinning beach ball, the fans roar and the only wait to get out is to pull the plug.
17" G5 1 g of RAM
all updates done
Any help would be appreciated
Have you tried pressing Command+Option+Esc, then hitting Return? This should force quit PowerPoint.
But to solve the problem, you might try deleting the PowerPoint preferences from your ~/Library/Preferences folder (where "~"=your home folder). Also, might be a good idea to verify your disk and repair your disk permissions with Disk Utility. If the verify disk operation identifies problems, boot from your OS X install CD and run Disk Utility from there to repair the disk, or simply boot into safe mode (hold Shift at startup) this runs a repair at boot time.

Thanks madgunde, I had ran Disc Utility and it gave me a clean report. Using your suggestions I went into Library/Preferences and could not find anything relating to PowerPoint. Even when I open PP in regular mode, there is nothing under Preferences. I have not tried your Command+Option+Esc. yet but will next time around. If I use PP under normal usage I have no problem closing or quitting just when opening mail sent programs
Most Microsoft Office preferences are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft. The PowerPoint preference file is ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/com.microsoft.PowerPoint.prefs.plist
Make sure you're looking at the right "Library" folder. You want the one in your user account's home folder (signified by the "~" character above), not the one that is located at the root of your hard disk, which would be just /Library without the "~".
