Wireless Problems: Who can I pay to stop the agony?
I cannot express to you all my continued amazement at how much time and aggravation has gone into trying to setup a maintain a simple wireless network for my MacBook Pro!! It simply blows my mind!!!
I had a DL-524. It just stopped working after a month or two. I have no idea why. I get a connection through Airport, but it never allows me to surf.
So: I read the threads here and someone says they have no problems with Belkin Wireless G router, so I spend ANOTHER $50-ish dollars and follow the "easy install" instructions.
Hours later, complete with multiple tech calls, there is no network in sight, and the escalated techie tells me to "go and get another one (router)" from the store where I bought it.
So damned funny if I wasn't pulling my hair out!
I have a suspician that both routers are fine, so I want to ask someone to come to my house, and I will pay them $50 to set up my network. I suspect it will take someone with simple knowledge about 5 minutes to do.
I will be happy to pick you up if need be. I am at Broadview station in Toronto.
Location: Ottawa (where Torontonians go to watch NHL-calibre hockey, but where Montrealers go to get sleep)

I, too was having a ridiculous amount of difficulty setting up my wireless.
I did exactly what you're thinking about.
I offered a Mac-savvy friend 50 bucks and food to configure my computers and airports.
That was the best money I ever spent!
I got to relax knowing that someone else was setting it up, and if there were technical issues that shouldn't be there, someone else would diagnose it and fix it, or tell me how.
My friend had it set up in a few hours - he had to undo lots of settings I had made during my month of wireless-set-up agony.
So my suggestion is; Yes, stop the headaches. Get someone else to do it!

Get an AirPort Base Station to end the agony. Seriously. The extra money spent on an Apple base station (Extreme or Express) makes the setup painless and straight forward.
Or you could hire a Mac-savvy techie.

BTW - did you plug the modem ethernet cable into the WAN port on the router? If you plugged it into any other port (LAN ports), you'll see a wireless network, but you won't get an actual Internet connection. If you're using PPPoE to connect (some ISP's use it), then that's another mess in itself and sometimes a nightmare when routers are involved.

I can't help you with your problem, but I have to add that d-link's wireless offerings are crap. I've bought a few of them, and they've all bricked themselves after a few months.
What are you using for the Hi-Speed internet connection?
Are you using a wireless router connected to the Hi-Speed modem via ethernet?
For example my Bell Sympatico Hi-Speed wireless/wired modem/router doesn't support Mac wireless.
To get around that I had to use a D-Link DWL-900AP+ wireless access point for
the wireless connection to my Airport enabled Mac's, Basically it works the same
way as an Airport base station attached to the Bell wireless/wired modem/router.
