My old g3 -400 Imac has died on me. It will not start up - you push the power button and it lights but nothing else happens - any ideas on what has given up on me - power supply ?
If the screen image was unstable, or changing size, or had lines through it, then it is likely the analog board that is blown. Common in all-in-one machines because of heat from the CRT.
If it was working perfectly, then you shut it off and left it off for a period of time, and came back to find it not starting up, then its likely the battery.
I've had enough of these go on me that I have officially given up on this model now because of age.
Do a quick search on this board alone and you'll find your answer. It's the PAV board and the repair (IF you can find parts) will cost you 2 - 3 times the value of the machine.
Solution - Strip it: HDD, Optical Drive, Airport Card, and Memory still hold value - junk the rest and don't waste your time trying to fix it. Not worth even the bother to try.
