Bootcamp Install Problem

When I'm running through the boot camp installation, and it gets to the partitioning portion I get this message

This disk cannot be partitioned because verification failed. Use Disk Utility to repair this disk.

I tried doing a Repair Disk Permission but it still isn't working, does anyone have any ideas about what I can do?

Boot off the Install DVD or another disk, open Disk Utility from that and Repair Permissions and Disk.

You mean the Mac OS install DVD? And how do I boot off it exactly?

I also tried doing the disk verification and got this message,

Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
Checking volume information.
Invalid volume free block count
Invalid volume free block count
(It should be 6558831 instead of 6487374)",2)

The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair

I forget how to boot directly off of it, something with holding C I think, but to be sure, while turning on the computer with the disk in the drive, hold down the Alt/Option key down, and wait for a selection to appear. Choose the DVD and press enter.

Also, on the start menu (silver bar at the top), after you choose english as your language, select utilities, than Disk Utility. Than you can repair em'.

That's a pretty serious directory issue - iffy for repair without a more powerful utility.

As ever people -
exact OS used?
what machine?

I'm getting this message after I repaired the disk booting with the Mac OS CD.

Your disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.

Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format the disk as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.

This is my first mac, I'm running a Macbook, and MacOSX 10.4.8.

I've gotten this same error when trying to make a Bootcamp partition, so has another friend of mine with a Macbook.

I managed to make one by just making the partition i wanted to make smaller by a couple gigabytes. The problem, I believe, is that there are some very large files (2+ gigs) that are getting in the way of creating the partition on the drive. Some testimonials I've heard have fixed the problem by deleting or moving these large files off of the disk, then trying.

Neither of these methods worked for my friend, and he has yet to go through the hassle of the Erase and Install.

Good luck.

Thanks I'll give that a try.
