Securing files in 5G ipod

was wondering if there was any way to secure files on an ipod?

this way no one can access them if they got their hands on my ipod.

If you mean for transport (like a portable drive / usb key) you can create an encrypted disk image and copy it to your iPod. That way it is extremely unlikely (not impossible) that someone would be able to get at the contained information. If you mean you want to make the iPod's information (music and contacts) secure, then I think the only option at this time is to use the combination lock.

Is there a way to set it to lock after a certain time? This doesn't stop someone from pulling the drive and copying the information.

this is exactly what I mean...I didnt' know there was this feature.

thanks.

I guess it's asking too much to be able to encrypt just one file, and leave everything else intact?

Exclamation

I've encrypted my files on my ipod many times. I personaly use Tresor... it has the best encryption I've seen. You can have your files encrypted, drop them into the iPod and still be able to listen to your music. Be aware that this program is only macintosh compatable so you wont be able to decrypt your files on a windows machine. The program has many many features... worth looking into I'd say.

Expensive but worth it: Pretty Good Privacy. www.pgp.com

It's military grade encryption. I hope those state secrets you are transporting via iPod get there safely.

Wow Wow Wow... nevermind. It's $149 USD. I'll just stick with my Tresor for $30 and encrypt only the files I need encrypted. But that does sound like an awesome solution! Encrypt the whole HD... but then I have a question... is there something wrong with FileVault? The encryption built-in to OS X Tiger?
