Please help with calibtating a secong monitor with imac

I have a 17" imac (duo model) and I just bought a Viewsonic 19" widescreen LCD (VA1912WB) to extend my desktop space. I am having trouble getting the colour to match. The viewsonic is a warmer display and the imac is cooler. I have tried adjusting the monitors using Apples monitor display preferences software and also the viewsonics built in adjustments but cannot get them to match.

Does anyone have any tips on the best approach?

I sympathize with you I have had the dame problems doing it with my iMac and a Samsung, not even close.

Have you tried calibrating them both from the Calibration tools (in monitor control panel) ? Other than doing it that way by hand, or buying/borrowing a hardware based calibration tool (the only way to really calibrate them) dunno what to say.

I have tried the monitor contraol panel and no matter what I do they seem to come out different. At this point I have decided to give my eyes a rest

I am going to try and find a calibration tool.

I guess the question is, can I reasonably expect them to look the same or is some difference of colour between screens normal? It's not that one looks bad, just different.
