It sounds like you need to go through your Mac's network and wireless configurations and maybe set them up for optimum speed, and definitely loose (ie: Trash) the Mac anti-virus stuff unless you REALLY need it, which is doubtful if you're just using the Mac OS X with your MBP.
Most AV stuff when installed and running can often turn a Mac into a slow sloth like experience.
BTW: It sounds like your PC or router has some preference set to get the best connection, and leaving your MBP to wallow in the dust.
