First question is why are you downloading an anti-virus program for a Mac? Completely unnecessary and perhaps the start of your issue. Try deleting it and emptying the trash, then restart your Mac. There are no viruses that threaten a Mac.

It sounds like you need to go through your Mac's network and wireless configurations and maybe set them up for optimum speed, and definitely loose (ie: Trash) the Mac anti-virus stuff unless you REALLY need it, which is doubtful if you're just using the Mac OS X with your MBP.

Most AV stuff when installed and running can often turn a Mac into a slow sloth like experience.

BTW: It sounds like your PC or router has some preference set to get the best connection, and leaving your MBP to wallow in the dust.

You can try a clean system installation. This may clean up any bad extensions you have.
