Change default download location

All my downloads go to my desktop automatically. I have a "download" folder, how do I get my downloads to go into my download folder automatically instead of loading onto the desktop each time?

Thanks,
Kevin

Assuming you are talking about from a web browser and using Safari, you have to go to Safari prefs, click on the General tab at the top and then you will see a 'Save downloaded files to:' drop down menu where you can select where to place downloaded files when using Safari.

If you are wanting all programs that you use to download files and stuff, then you will have to go into the prefs for that app and find out where they let you choose the download location.

Also, if you Ctrl click (or right click) on a link in Safari, the context menu offers "Download Linked File" which will send the linked file to your default folder. BUT if you hold the Option key while Ctrl-clicking, the menu item changes to "Download Linked file as..." which opens a normal save dialog allowing you to specify where to save "on the fly".

Take care, Margaret

Hey, I like this tip too! This has been one of my pet peeves with Safari.
