cd cdrive in ibook non functional,

Hey,
A cd drive in an ibook I've been sent is not working, The drive spins up but nothing mounts and it quits. One disc mounted after closing the lid and opening it again. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this or is the drive simply kaput?

Need some more info... What iBook are you talking about? What OS are you running? Have you done the latest software update?

sorry for the late response, just doing the family cottage thing lately.
I might be receiving a refund for the ibook but just in case I would like to get it running;
It is a 900 mhz G3 with a std. cd-rom drive running the latest OS with all software updates applied.
