Airport Networked Printer - Why Not?
Hi Friends
I am trying (once again) to set up a printer on my Airport Express, to print from both my PowerBook (Tiger) and my G5 (Tiger).
The printer is plugged in, turned on, and USBed to the Airport Express.
When I went in to Utilities, I was able to add the printer via Bonjour. Then, when I went to print a test page, the Printer List window appeared, but shows no printer under either USB selection, nor the Network selection, so I can't select the printer to print.
Do you see where I've gone wrong?
Thanks in advance!
Macs "Just work"?! Oh, I have to laugh at that to keep from crying.

I have a Lexmark laser printer hooked up to an Airport Express in the basement and it works great printing from my PowerBook (tiger) and iMac G5 (panther).
You won't find the printer under USB or network, it's under "Bonjour". Does the printer show up when you go to "Add Printer" through the print menu?

Yeah, when I first tried to print, the printer showed up under Bonjour. I selected it and added it to the printer selection (it's the only printer). Then when I went to print a test page, the Printer List window appeared, but shows no printer under either USB selection, nor the Network selection, so I can't select the printer to print.
It seems like a Catch-22.
Bonjour sees the printer.
When I try to print an actual test, another dialogue box opens that doesn't see the printer.
As I'm typing this, I just had a thought: Maybe because I'm trying to print a test page, which comes through the printer utility, it won't run through the Airport.
I'll test print a regular document straight off the desktop.
- Back soon!...

Yes! Yes! Yes!
I now have a working, Airport-connected, networked printer!!!
The problem was as I suspected - I was trying to print a test from Printer Utility.
I read somewhere else that some printer maintenance functions only work when the printer is plugged directly in to the computer via USB.
When I printed a simple document instead of a test page out of the Printer Utility, it worked!
A funny quirk: When I print from the G5, I need to select the printer from Bonjour. When I print from the PowerBook, I need to slect the printer from Shared. I don't know why, and don't really mind, cuz it fnally works!!
Macs "just work", finally.
