Unhappy Eudora and Intel Macs

My friend's new MacBookPro arrived on Thursday - and I did the transfer from his near-death 14" iBook that afternoon. We met up on Friday, and he had already had one of those dreaded full-screen-gray "masks" that says "You Must Restart Your Computer", and a few freezes when using Eudora.

The full-screen freeze, I hope, is not something serious. The Eudora freezes, however, I discovered are quite common (see the forums at www.eudora.com). Wish I'd known ahead of time, so he would be prepared for this, and not miffed at the "bugs" (as he calls them) in his new $2500 machine.

FYI, Qualcomm is projecting a Summer 2006 release of the Universal Binary version of Eudora ... we'll have to deal with random freezes until then...

The grey screen issue on my MBP were RAM related so you may want to check. Mine is the 1.83 Ghz with 2 Gigs of RAM. The two sticks were mis-matched, but once paired properly, no problem since.

Why not just use the "Mail" app that comes with the MBP? It works fine and has some nice features. No mail problems ever for me.

SINC, thanks - I'll check out the RAM tomorrow on his MBP.

heh - well, 'cause mail apps aren't really that interchangeable. He's been a Eudora user almost as long as I have (back to vers. 1.3.1), and switching him to Mail would be a bit of a nightmare. Mail isn't bad, but it's certainly not Eudora!
