Panther and Conectivity

I've been playing around on the mac mini and I've noticed that the wireless internet is somewhat unreliable. Additionaly I was working on a friends iBook, also running panther, and it too dropped wireless concetions. NOW We're thining of putting in for the Tiger family pack, but we need to know if it'll help out the Wifi.

Lastly, they have a leditimate copy of Office, however the disks are in Calgary (We're commies, we like the family packs). Is it possible to install Tiger with out altering the contents of the application folder.

You can do an upgrade of your existing system to Tiger and your copy off office and other applications will remain in place with no issues.

With your flakey WIFI connection, I would say that if you are both having connection problems that its the AP over the macs that are causing your issues.

I would check the wireless router to see if there is anything wrong with it. When I had panther, it ran fine on my wireless networks...

the reason I ask about panther because both laptops are 1.2 iBooks with airport cards. the mini is using a Dlink USB adapter. Both their panthered iBook and the panthered mini are having conectivity issues. My iBook stays connected wiht no problemm on both routers, as does a dell laptop, and and intel imac (10.4.6)

Could RAM be a factor?

No I wouldnt think its the RAM in the machine. I would say its more likely a firmware issue on the airport card or the cards antenna have become lossened and need to be re-plugged in.

These ar the iBooks there the airport card sits right underneath the keyboard right? If so, life up the keyboard and ensure that the antenna is plugged right in. They are troublesome to plug all the way in. It seems as if you are forcing it too hard and might break it, but thats what it needs.

Well the mini is behaving better, I think the USB adapter is just somewhat crappy. As for the iBook, my friends are going to reset the router and tell me if that improves matter. Thanks for all the help dthompson
