Backup game DVD no go? Help

Hi Ehmacers

I recently bought my son a copy of Star Wars Lego for his birthday. The kids can be hard on disks at times and they've rendered a few inoperable in the past. So I recently started making a copy of the original for them to play so if they ruin it, I haven't lost the game. I tried doing this with Star Wars Lego but when I try using the backup copy (burned using Copy disk in Toast titanium) to play, the game asked for the original disk. Am I doing something wrong or is this some sort of copy protection? I guess the other question is, is it legal to make a backup?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Try using Disk Utility. I find it works better when burning a back up. I think Toast misses something in the process on certain disks.
Create a .DMG (disk image) file and then burn the disk image to disk.

I tried making a back up copy of my Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 disk using both Toast and Disk Utility. Neither worked, as I got the "insert original disk" request on both disks. Anyone need a pair of coasters?

Thanks for the advice guys.

I tried Disk Utility and got the same thing. Insert original disk. Funny thing is that the disk looks identical and seems to have all the same content. Guess I'll have to teach the kids to give their Lego Star Wars game the white glove treatment.

Thanks again

Cheers

You can use Alcohol 120% to make a disc image and just mount the image with it. But if the game has blacklisted the Alcohol 120% then from what I know your pretty much skrewed (unless you don't have the newest Alcohol 120%)!

I've found a krack for TW-PGA '05, but it's teetering on piracy if you don't own it. Still no real solution. At least it means less ware-and-tare on my disk.
