Ibook G4 Woes

I recently purchased an ibookg4 from ebay and everything works fine except...when I install applications or even save something upon reboot they are gone. I tried deleting the current user account through the root user and creating a new account and when I reboot the system it goes back to the default one that it always automatically logs into. its currently running os x 10.4.4, I dont have any install disks or the like...the person I purchased it from isnt being cooperative...would a complete fresh install of the o/s rectify this problem? I dont wanna go out and purchase TIGER and it not work.

This is my first Mac so I'm kinda lost as to what to do with this thing...like right now I can surf the net and complete all tasks but like I said when I reboot it all is lost except the original configuration that always shows when started up.

its got me thinking that this may have been a retail demo or something

any thoughts?

TIA

I live in Kensington market. If you can make it out to t.o tomorrow, maybe i can meet you at u of t?
There is a Starbucks at the corner of St. George and College.
We could meet there at around 6 or 7?
Cheers

There's a computer place right above that StarBucks... any idea what that place is? I wanted to go there to check it out, but I don't want to walk in if it isn't a public place... Enough awkward situations for me this week.

Get some Tiger disks. One thing you may wanna do is take it into an AASP and see if they can boot off install disks first. If there's an Open Firmware password set on the machine.. it will be quite hard to do anything with it. That, or if you know any friends with install disks that you might be able to try.

Btw.. G4manwithipod, what you are suggesting is highly illegal.. just so you know.
