I tried using this, had some pictures I had copied over to the HD. Opened IPhoto and clicked on File, Import (or whatever it was). Selected the pictures from the HD and clicked OK.
After this, I get a message saying it cannot recognize them. These are .jpg pictures taken from my Sony Digital Camera. Moved from the memory stick to a PC, copied from the PC to a USB Drive, from the USB Drive to the Mac HD. (I know I could of done all those in 1 step but had to copy it to the PC first)
I went to the apple site to read up on proper way to do it and it seems to be the way. Just dont know why I keep getting those messages.
Any ideas?

One trick you could try is just draggin the photos onto the iPhoto icon in your dock. I sometimes have .psd files that it won't recognize using cmd-O and this sort of "force imports" the photos.
Open iPhoto, open the finder and locate your photo's. Drag and drop to iPhoto. Import on iPhoto is looking for a device (I think) or external drive in some cases.
On a Mac, if you're new to it, many times you will overthink the solution. Comes from using a PC where things aren't always to intuative but become habit.

Hmmm something to try. Didn't think something so easy could be the solution and your right, coming from PC does that to you hehe.
Thanks!

Did you get them from the web? I've found web browsers are pretty good at opening images even if they have the wrong extensions. It may in fact not be a jpg and iPhoto may not be as forgiving. Open in preview and go to "Tools > Get Info" to confirm the file type.

It is jpeg, checked the get info area to confirm. These are pictures taken with my Sony Digital Camera 5.0 megapixel.
And yes, when i double click, it opens in preview. I tried different pictures and i get the same ones.
Any other ideas?

Bizarre, to be sure. If the pics open in preview, the files are good and obviously not corrupted. Have you tried dragging individual photos into iPhoto.
Also, try renaming one of the files .jpg and dragging it in. I know iPhoto will do a direct import from your Sony camera no problem, so I'm thinking the import to PC and move did something iPhoto does not like.

Interesting idea!
I might try that later, something simple like that could probably be the answer.
Thanks!
