Pismo redish tint...

Hi,

Just bought a Pismo 500mhz and the LCD has the redish tint at startup. This goes away after a few seconds and the screen is normal. I'd like to know what is causing that redish color. Is it the backlight, the inverter or the screen itself ?

Thanks,

This is a known issue with the Pismo.

Some displays came this way when they were first released (2001).
I can not remember if Apple did anything about it or not.
My 400 Pismo is afflicted with the 'pinky' screen at start up and has been since I purchased it new. Like you mentioned it goes away after a bit.

My old dead 500 Pismo did not exhibit the 'pinky' screen.

Sounds like an Inverter problem to me, though I wouldn't worry too much about it if it goes away after a few seconds.

The pink tint is due to the backlight getting old. Over time it could get worse and you can either get a new screen, try the very difficult repair of the backlight by replacing the bulb, or get a new Pismo.

Thanks guys,

As MacGYVER says I would agree about the backlight getting old. I already replaced a dead one on a Pismo a few months ago and it was a tough job. The lamp is so tiny and fragile that I broke one during installation but I had purchased 2 so I was able to finish the job.

For those who would want to try to replace their Pismo/Lombard backlight here is the link for the part:

and the link to order the part:
http://ca.digikey.com/scripts/DkSear...?KeywordSearch
Digikey part number is: 289-1108-ND
Manufacturer part number is: BF20292-24B
backlight lamp is $16.12 CDN + shipping
