Battery Life - G4 iBook

My iBook G4 (14") is about a year old and the battery does not hold even 1 hour of charge. I picked it up last fall at Carbon on Queen east of Broadview

Is this normal and it's time to purchase a new battery. If so, any suggestions - Apple.ca and Carbon has them for $159-.

If this is not normal, any suggestion on what to fix or how to pursue warrenty?

Thanks in advance for any input!

If you've done a PRAM reset (command-option-P-R) then it's time for a new battery. You might want to confirm the warranty status of your iBook before you shell out some cash just in case the iBook still has some warranty coverage left on it.

Batteries aren't covered after 6 months no matter what the issue, regardless if you have extended AppleCare warranty. You'll have to buy a replacement.

Mostly plugged in on the coffee table for the first two months and months four to eight.

Months two & three, just plugged in to charge the battery and operated for two or three hours every three days.

Recently, it's been into an office and used a few hours a day, plugged in on the coffee table at home until it was time to go to the office again.

Now - it's not far from it's charger.

So... does that help?

When its used at the office, is it plugged in or used by the charger?

Thanks for people's input - indeed it was time to get a new battery - my question was surrounding warrenty.

The fine people at Carbon Computing (Queen & Broadview, Toronto) set me up with a new battery under warrenty.

I've read and will follow Apple's suggestion for battery maintenance:

Best wishes,
- maitland
