OK so I've installed a new hard drive and I want to move about 125G of files. Can I do this without copying them first? If so, how? I'm sure it's a simple "hold this key" response but I cant seem to work it out.
Thanks

Hi, if you're moving from one drive to another, copying is all there is. Unless I'm missing something in your question. Can you be more specific?

You weren't missing anything, I was just hoping to speed up the process.
I know when moving something from one folder to another on the same drive is much much quicker than copying so I hoped there was a way to "move" rather than "copy" to a second drive.

That's because it's not physically moving or copying anything when you 'move' between two folders on a drive. It's just changing the layout of your file system.
When you move/copy a file to another drive, it has to actually be read, transmitted, and written in a new place. At least that's my guess

Yeah, it's just changing the directory entries which indicate where the file is located.
