SMB I/O error (bummers)

I have been trying to mount our server and I keep getting this error.
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://ipaddress" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)."

Can anyone help me, or even give me a link as to a DYI fix. I have surfed and found alot of "fixes" for connecting OSX to a PC. But nothing on connecting to a server. Here is all information you may need.

Mac Workstation:
Dual 1.8 Ghx PowerPC G5
1 GB DDR SDRAM

Server is a Windows 2003 server
The SMB is unknown.

I forgot to mention I was running OS 10.3.9.
I just upgraded to Tiger and all seems well. So far.
Would love to hear how this could have happened in the first place though if anyone wants to jump in and add their 2 cents?

I saw some posts about a change in whether the authentication is encrypted or not. I'm not positive, but I think 10.3 wasn't and 10.4 is by default.
