Question How to transfer applications from old mac to new?

I have just purchased a new Mac and would like to transfer a few programs from my old machine. I'd rather not have to re-install some the commercial programs, and in a couple of cases I don't have the install disks anymore. Is there a way to transfer the applications, including whatever permission/registration I need in order to be able to run it properly? I've read about Carbon Copy Cloner, but that seems to be for replacing a whole boot volume, and there are some programs on the new Mac that I don't want to replace (including the Tiger OS). Is there a way to use CCC to select individual applications along with their permisions files?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,

If there is FireWire on the old iMac you could plug both computers in and reboot the old mac in Target mode (hold down the T during boot). The old mac will show up on the new mac's desktop. Look through the drive of the old mac and pull the apps you want from the old mac to your new mac's application folder. I don't think you will be able to save the preferences and registration, but you could set that up on the new mac.

Another option could be to clone your drive to your new mac and then upgrade the clone to Tiger.
