Canon A70 Mac USB transfer problem

Hi,

I bought a used Canon A70 from Henry's outlet for a family member, very good price and a great little camera. We got one for my mother-in-law a year ago and she loves.

I took some test pictures but am unable to transfer them to a Mac, any Mac, to check them. The person using it will also be on a Mac, so I need to get this straightened out.

The camera goes into wait state mode when plugged in via USB. I set the five images up to transfer [this is one lame thing about this camera, I don't have to do this on my Nikon 8800]. Am I not supposed to see the CF card on my desktop like I do with my Nikon?

The camera did not come with a CD, but as far as I can figure, as long as you're on OX 10.1 or higher, you don't need any software. And there is nothing to download from Canon for the Mac, it's all Windoze stuff.

Anyone?

Have you opened iPhoto at the same time? Or tried image capture?

Well, the A70 is on Apple's list of supported cameras. My father in law has the same camera and I wowed him by plugging it into my mac and importing some pics without having to install any software. I just plugged the camera in, iPhoto opened up automatically and all I had to do was click "Import."

Is your USB cable OK? Or maybe it's a preference thing? Open Image Capture > Preferences and make sure it's set to open iPhoto or Image Capture when a camera is plugged in.

MY GOD YOU ARE A SAINT. SAINT ARTISTSERIES. Hey, that sounds pretty good.

I am sure they'll love doing it this way. Very cool. I might have to start doing that with my own camera!!

You have to pardon me, I'm an old fart who still things "plug in and use like hard disk".

And thanks. I owe you one. If you need a hand with any layout/graphics/web stuff, let me know.

I have the same Canon camera A70 but I prefer using a USB flash card reader they're quite common now and cheap too around 20$. Saves the batteries!

Imaging software description for the Mac from the Canon website:
http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/enjoy-e.html

My girlfriend uses the Canon imagebrowser with her Canon camera.

Funny stuff...They don't offer the software as a free download anymore.

If you ever want to download videos shot with that camera (I think it can shoot videos) iPhoto doesn't do it, but Image Capture does (someone pointed me to this on ehmac before with a powershot).

Not sure if you've got it working yet? One more suggestion: make sure the camera is set to playback mode, not shooting mode.

I have the Canon A75 .. mine works seamlessly with iPhotos ..

The more I do on my mac the more impressed I become each day ..

I think I'm smitten to my Stella ..yup I gave my iBook a name ..

When I hooked up my canon printer to my iBook .. All I had to do was plug the cable in ..And I was ready to print .. Unbelieveable ..
