Unhappy Oh no. iMac G5 Problem, anyone have these problems?

Hi all. I have been starting to have some problems with my iMac G5 (first gen) and I'm a little worried. I would like to know if anyone else has had these symptoms with theirs.

First, last week when i started up i got a black screen that said "volume has no name" and no matter what I did (after following all the troubleshooting steps in the manual) I couldnt get it to start the OS. I had to re-install Tiger . A day earlier it had crashed twice and had to restart it by holding down the power button. It had never crashed once since i got it in December.

Second, (with a clean Tiger install) yesterday when i had it awake from sleep i couldnt connect to the internet so I did a restart (which solved the problem this time) but the sleep light stayed on for about 20-30 seconds before it started up. Now everytime i start up or restart it does this. It has only taken a few seconds for start up before.

I did some maintenance and ran the "hardware test" disc and it found no problems. I havent installed any funky software that would do cause this. Frustrating!

I know there have been some problems with the first generation iMac G5's and was wondering if anyone else has had these specific problems.

Thanks for any help!

Hi I have the same machine and have seen the same problems posted about them . The black screen sounds ominous but only if you have it more than once. Make sure you have anything important backed up. As far as the internet connect goes One incident does not a problem make. I wish you trouble free use but if not you are still within the first year of applecare and have a safety net.

Because you're a 1stgen imac g5 owner, you may be eligible to the extended warranty offered by apple (free of charge). Check out the page at
