Just got Sympatico - do i need to always connect?

Is there a way to not use "Internet Connect" and have sympatico auto-connect and stay always connected?
It always is asking me "Do you wish to stay connected?

How can I make it more like normal high speed internet :always-on?

Any way?

A $30 router/firewall can be the best investment you make

Definitely get a firewall. Especially if you plan on always being connected. I remember back in my PC days, I was able to set up if I wanted to always be connected or not. I don't know if that's changed.

but I do know that you're always connected if you use a router. That's how I'm set up.

I figured it out under PPPOE Option.
Always Connect when needed.
Dont Ask to stay connected after 10 minutes.

Much better

Funny - I just connect a Mac mini to Sympatico in Montreal. No router.
It always stays connected, never asked "Do you wish to stay connected?". I didn't even know there was an option to drop the connection other than turning off the Mac or the DSL modem.

Why don't you call Sympathico tech support? I called them with two questions I had with DSL; both times the tech guy was very friendly and knowlegable and resolved my problem in a few minutes.

Is the firewall in OS X not adequate? Do I need to get something more?
