iBook charger not working

I've noticed over the past two or three days that when my iBook charger has been plugged in, it sometimes just stops functioning. No light is on, even though it's plugged into a working outlet. The battery drains as if I've taken it outside or something to use on battery life.

To get the charger working again, I unplug it from the surge protector and plug it back in, to a different outlet. Then it resumes charging. Plugging it back into the same outlet only works half the time (both on the surge protector, and straight into the wall socket plug).

For a little bit of background, my house was hit by lightning in that huge storm that passed through Toronto two and a half weeks ago (basketball sized holes in the roof hit by lightning), and we lost all of our electronics, save for two computers that were unplugged. I had unplugged my iBook a moment before the lightning struck, but hadn't had time to get the charger unplugged from the wall. I'm wondering if afterwards, when we were testing what was working and what wasn't, if the charger maybe did something to my iBook? There was no power to it at all, and the insurance company paid for me to get a new one from the Apple store, but now this new one is malfunctioning.

But I also wonder if I just managed to get a faulty charger, or my battery is dying (just got the iBook 2 months ago from Best Buy), or if something's wrong with the computer it's self.

Has this happened to anyone? I'm disappointed to have discovered this new problem, because I've had enough of insurance companies and warranties and replacing things (I know, a minor thing compared to what's happening in New Orleans, and believe me, I do feel guilty for whining/complaining).

Thanks for any and all imput.

Sounds like your surge protector was damaged due to the lightning strike and most likely your power adapter too. Since your machine is still under warranty, I'd contact Apple at their toll free number and have them send you a replacement adapter. No need to tell them that mother nature may have been the contributiong factor to its demise.
