Question USB Microphone with Classic

I purchased a Logitech USB Desktop Microphone recently to use with some kid games (i.e. Reader Rabbit). For my Mac mini.

I set up the OS X system prefs so input is with the new mic and then started up Reader Rabbit. However, I could not record anything. So I checked the Control Panel in Classic and "Sound" was not even there. I then tried moving a "Sound" (from another System folder), but OS X says something about "Sound" not able to work under Classic.

I then plugged the mic into a "OS 9" laptop and it worked fine.

Help!! My kids are depending on me

Which OS are you running on the Mac mini?

I just checked the control panel in classic (running OS 10.2.8) and 'sound' was there and worked fine...tha's on a G4.
Then I booted the G4 into Tiger OS 10.4...don't have OS 10.3 (that the mini originally came with) on the G4...with classic (running OS 10.4), 'sound' does show up in the control panel list, but when I click on it I get a message that this capability is not supported!

What the heck! Anyone know what is going on here? I expected that the functionality under classic would remain the same with the different versions of OS X. Am I now expected to set up my Mac to boot into three different operating systems??? OS 9 (non-classic) for older apps that don't run under classic, OS 10.2.8 for most older apps that do run under classic and most OS 10 applications and then OS 10.4 to get the new capabilities with Tiger.
Shouldn't the classic support in Tiger be the same as in Jaguar and Panther?

Seems to me this is an Apple issue.
In 10.2.8 with classic, the sound control panel is there and functional.
With 10.4.2 it's not...all that comes up when you click on 'sound' under control panels in Classic is that this application or control panel is not supported.

I'll start another post with this as the heading...maybe someone else can comment.
