But do the Slot Loading ones?
im sure the older ones do, but witch models do you need to partition the drive?
I want to know witch iMac G3's can you leave the harddrive in it's entierty
and run OS X. So the hole drive is lets say 80GB?

I'm pretty sure all of the tray load iMacs must be partitioned,......not the slot load.

I'm using a tray loading 333 that runs Panther. No partition was necessary. Just restart from the install CD and install. X will run as your default OS thereafter.

That's because your hard drive was/is less than 8GB in size.

Thumbs up

I have a slot loading iMac G3 500 DV SE with a 30G HD and no partition here.
Make sure you have upgraded the firmware before installing OS X...

What's the size of your hard drive? As I understand it, the iMac G3 needed a boot partition or a HD 8MB in size or less.

The partition rule only applies to the tray-loading iMac series, and the firmware warning to slot-loading iMacs only.

My HD is 6MB. Maybe Lars is right. I didn't know this partition rule.

That's what it is then, you're using the original HD. I believe Lars is correct.

8MB partition? do you all mean GB?

and why do you need this partition? regardless of what machine it is. why would OS X need a partition?

and then why is it exclusive to some machines and not to others?
