Is anyone else having problems with Suitcase X1 and Tiger?
I have dumped the prefs, reinstalled the fonts, checked font corruption with Font Doctor X, dumped the system font cache with Font Finagler, cleaned and organized my fonts, activated less, and about 3 other things six time in the last week to no avail… I still keep getting hanging and "the application is not responding" & "Suitcase cancelled the shutdown" messages.
I see in the Apple discussions there are others in this same boat but I am wondering if any of you are experience this frustration?

try to get a patch or contact Extensis customer support.
I've been using Suitcase with Tiger for about a month now with no problems, other than with CS2 autoupdate doesn't work right away. (If I quit & relaunch Illustrator the font shows up).
I did a clean install & reinstalled all apps & utiltities. I had a clone of my original setup in case it didn't work, but Tiger & applications seem to work fine.
Have you tried to reinstall Suitcase? Also it may help to uninstall first. Here is a reference from Extensis site that may be some help.
(2176 - Suitcase quits unexpectedly on Startup) http://www.extensis.com/en/support/k...cleNumber=2176
I realize it's referring to 10.3 but I think it still applies, even in Tiger. Hope you solve your problems.
Sorry forgot the link!

I did an archive and install. I installed a fresh copy of Suitcase as well. I have cleaned all the user fonts out as well as the OS 9 ones and left the system ones alone. I have font doctored my fonts to the point where it returns no errors, duplicates or corruption. Then I had suitcase check for errors, duplicates or corruption when I added my fonts fresh. And still nothing. It works fine until I try and activate my fonts which then suitcase tells me a font which doesn't exist in my system set is conflict with a system font. That's supposed to be a 'preview window' glitch but when you turn off preview pane it only solves the problem momentarily.
How many fonts do you have in your library and how many do you have active at one time?
I see no where that documents how many you can have or how many can be active. I just know that ATM that I use at work on OS 9.2 can handle a lot more on a slower machine with less RAM.
To anyone who doesn't already have Suitcase - get FontAgent Pro instead.
This is what I keep seeing. I am considering switching over to it. How many fonts do you have, how many typically do you leave active, and have you used suitcase or ATM Deluxe and how do they compare to Font Agent Pro?
I have a fair collection of fonts, far more than I would want to load or sort thru' all the time. I have a base set which I load & a projects set which varies & I load only what I'm going to work with.
As far as your fonts issue goes you might check for open fonts in suitcase in the lower panel. You might find your open font listed there. Does it say what it is? I assume from your post that you are running Classic OS9 as well. It is possible that could be causing the problem, but it's hard for me to say because I'm only running OS 10.4.1 & I don't use Classic personally.

On the Cube and the Powerbook I have Classic installed but never running. I have also removed the fonts down the the base 4 that you need, as suggested by the Extensis Tech. I have the lower panel set to display ALL fonts (including system and otherwise) and when I activate Aachen Bold for example it says it is in conflict with another system font… When you check the lower pane, sure enough there is no Aachen Bold active.
Here's a link from extensis about CS2 and tiger compatibility issues you can check out it was just updated yesterday: http://www.extensis.com/en/support/p...patibility.jsp Also I'm not sure if you've downloaded and read the Best Practices for Managing Fonts in Mac OS X its on the extensis website and it's free to download. It tells you alll about fonts in OSX and where their located (a lot more places than OS 9) and gives you simple guidlines to help organize your fonts. Fonts can be a real nightmare in OSX (as I'm sure you're already aware). The other thing you can do is attend a seminar on Font Management. Check out http://www.loop.ca/ they offer regular free seminars on Macs including one of font management which I attend and was very informative. Since your in London you don't have that far to go (all their seminars are in Toronto). Also the way it was explained to me directly from Apple as far as the number of fonts you can have loaded. They told me that Fonts in OS X do not use RAM up the way they did in OS 9 so you can have tons of fonts loaded if you want. Personally I still think it's better to keep fonts in sets and load them as you need them but I do know people who have hundreds of fonts loaded on their systems and have little or no problems in OSX.
