Question Portables - Sleep or power down?

Is it safe to, say, use your portable Mac for a few hours, then put it to sleep and slip it into your carry case for the commute home?

Mainly heat issues are what I'm wondering about.

I know using the sleep mode instead of powering down means a little more battery power is consumed, but I really love the "instant-on" of a wake from sleep, as compared to a cold boot.

I'm just concerned that since the laptop is warm when it goes to sleep, that it might be "bad" for it to slip it into a carry case.

Sweet. This is what I figured, it's just nice to hear someone else say it, you know?

My fiance goes months with out ever shuting her powerbook down. I hardly ever shut it down, i always use the sleep function. IN my mind it is one of the best features of modern protables.
