iTunes won't copy files

hey everyone.

Just this morning my iTunes app decided to stop copying files to it's folder. I was importing an audible.com title into iTunes when an error box popped up telling my I don't have permission to write to my music folder. I have checked the permissions on the folder and it's fine. I have repaired permissions. I have restarted. I have deleted my iTunes preferences.

The only way I can get the file into iTunes is if I uncheck to copy files to the iTunes music folder. Not good.

I would really rather have iTunes manage the folder than have to worry about doing it myself.

Any suggestions?

I had a problem where when I use my laptop.. I had all my music on my external drive. When the drive wasn't on while iTunes was opening.. it would default to the internal drive and the Music folder in the home directory. Just wondering if you might be using an external drive? This might be an issue?

Nope, internal only. Been this way for years (carried over from past systems).

The file works fine if I leave it where it is (Desktop). It loads into the library and can be played or copied to my iPod, iPod Shuffle or Palm PDA. It just won't copy into my music folder. I guess I could put it there manually and leave it at that but I see more problems on the horizon with other files.

Thanks for the idea though.

I reset the access privelages for the whole itunes folder and everything seems to work now. I don't know why it was wonky because I didn't really change anything, just unlocked the privelages panel in "get info" and clicked on the apply to enclosed folders button, locked the privelages panel and closed "get info".

Anyway, it seems to be working now.
