Import CSV file Into Address Book?

I'm finaly thinking about using the OS X Address Book. I keep my contacts on my Handheld, it's always been my primary list of names, numbers, email addys, etc. and will continue to be so. However, I'd like to get the info off the handheld and into the Address Book on my Mac. The only problem is my handheld is an "antique" and I have a single option for exporting data: CSV (comma separated variables).

CSV format seems to be pretty standard in a whole lot of places, but surprisingly not Apple. I've already looked at the scripting options in /Library/Scripts and I see some ways to import but nothing fits CSV.

Does anybody know of a program or something that would let me do this? I'm not looking for 2-way syncing or anything, just import one-way into Address Book.

She who laughs last -- probably made a back-up.

I had to do this as well when I switched from my PC over to my iMac. I think the work around I used was to import CSV into Entourage or Excel and then export as something that Address book could import. And then use the "Import Addresses" script instead of the import command under "file". I seem to recall that is how I did it but it took me quite a bit of futzing around to get a combination that would work.

It also took a lot of fiddling to finally get everything to line up in the appropriate fields. My address book contained a lot of duplicates and funky fields due to a lot of changing of address book apps on my PC. I wanted to use only the Apple address book app when I moved to the iMac so I spent a couple of days tidying everything up, saving, exporting the database and then backing everything up. Tedious as all get out but now worth it in the end as Mail uses the address book and everything is nicely integrated on my iMac.

Hopefully I won't have to do that again for a while.
