Safari quitson Java applications since running Onyx

Here is what happened:

I installed Onyx to perform optimization. Prior to running Onyx, I was able to go to such sites as http://omnivox.collegeahuntsic.qc.ca...f=200937723721 and log in without any trouble for at least 4 months.

As soon as I ran Onyx, I restarted, and went to check my grades at the address listed above, and poof, it crashed. (quits on me). I decided to repair permissions the old way (with disk utility), restarted, and still, I am getting the same results, and this, for the last month.

I tried uninstalling Onyx, then repairing permissions through Disk Utility, and I was still crashing.

It seems as though the issue happens on Java heavy pages, such as www.candystand.com as well as other Java pages.

I know my system handles it well, because I can access the same pages with Camino

I am using:
iBook G3 300
572 Mb ram
30 Gig HD
Safari 1.2 (V125)
Camino
OS X 10.3.7 updated

Any help would be appreciated !

Thanks

JF

BTW, I also uninstalled and reinstalled Safari !

Cheers !

Try Shiira ( same engine as Safari )- Safari has some real weirdness. The pages above loaded fine on Safari.
How full is your drive??
Any other Safari add ons ???
Safari 1.2.4??

Drive is half full (15 gigs)
Safari 1.2.5

And as mentionned, all was perfect until I ran Onyx.

I also have my Java runtime applet 1.4.2

Site works OK for me too.

Try this:
In Safari, go to:
Window: Activity
... the Activity Viewer window should open on your desktop.
Go to your page, and check the Activity Window for errors (stuff that won't load).

Should give you some clues as to what is going on.

OnyX won't be doing anything as long as it's not running (ie you don't launch it and enter your admin password) so deletion won't fix anything, nor will having it on your HD cause problems if it's not running.

Go to:
/Library/Internet Plugins
... and see what you have there for Java plugins. I have three, Get Info (highlight, then Command-I) shows permissions to be (check the arrow if necessary):

You can: Read & Write
Details >
Owner: System: Read & Write
Group: Admin: Read & Write
Others: Read Only

If you can't find them there, check:
/Users/[username]/Library/Internet Plugins

Files are:
Java Applet Plugin Enabler
Java Applet.plugin
JavaPluginCocoa.bundle

... although they work better at the root Library.
