Motorola Surfboard cable modems and OS X

My parents have a Surfboard 1540 cable modem (USB) + XP machine configuration which works reasonably well. Because the XP machine doesn't have ethernet, I can't share the connection with my PB12 when I visit them.

I have tried many times to hog the USB cable and to connect, without success. I have looked everywhere for suitable drivers: no luck. Moto only provides PC drivers. I'm going crazy.

I am considering chucking away the XP and buying them a Mini instead, but I need to make it connect!

Any suggestions?

You need to invest $20 in a PCI Ethernet card for the PC.
