Help: Powerbook Audio Input

I was reading the current issue of this:

Then I went to the apple site and read this:
"The audio input jack is a 3.5 mm mini phone jack located on the I/O panel on the side of the computer. The audio input jack accepts line-level stereo signals. It also accepts a stereo miniplug-to-RCA cable adapter for connecting stereo equipment to the computer."

So I just got a set of these:

To be used with this:

Now. Ok. I've got them plugged into my 15" powerbook. I can hear my iTunes - sounds ok. But I don't hear anything from the mic.

Open prefs.
Audio.
Audio line in, volume 90%.

Still nothing.

Hrmm...

The spec seems like it should work ok. Has anyone ever plugged a passive microphone into their powerbook before? What did I miss? I wanna get my skype on!

The head set you bought uses a mic level output from the mic. The Mac uses a Line level input. Even when this works it results in coarse sound. Head back to a Mac store and pick up a headset there, they should have something that will work for you. Or, head to any store and buy a USB headset.

Ahhhh crap. I like the form factor too. Portable.

Has anyone seen a USB headset that's exactly like this?

Anyone know of a blueooth set that works for iChat AV and Skype?

The answer is the Jabra BT200. Just tested with iChat AV and Skype. Good enough for me. Ordering my own today.

I don't mean to insult you, but you acted like a windows user here !

Why did you want to use extra things at low price when there is already the integrated mic that works perfectly fine.

(I use it regulary for skype, as i use my usb webcam mic for i chat)
