There is another problem with audio on ElCapitan

I have headphones selected but I don't get any sound when listening (or trying to listen) to a broadcast on CNN.
If the broadcast is running and I switch the system sound preferences outout from headphones to soundflower and then back to headphones, the sound over the headphones becomes audible.
But then when I play that CNN clip again, the same thing happens, no sound until I switch from headphone out put to soundflower and back.

I don't know if this is an issue with CNN, soundflower or ElCapitan, but ElCapitan has a lot of really strange quirks some of which were already discussed on this forum.

All Soundflower. It takes awhile for the system to right itself, even when you change the Sound System Preferences.

Any idea how long "awhile" is?

Are we talking days or weeks?
Or do I need a reboot?

Not relevant, unless it is also working for your immediate needs.

With Audio Hijack you can select your web-browser as your audio source and record to your hearts content. Works very well. The reason you have trouble selecting speakers or headphones is good old DRM. Apple does not want you recording from the computer output. God forbid you might steal a tune or 3.

BTW If you need to clean it up later, use Audacity or whatever with the output file.

Why is it not relevant.
You yourself commented on grabbing YouTube clips - which wasn't my issue at all.
I just pointed out another option.

BTW - I was looking for some help and input two days ago because I needed to record that webinar on Sunday morning.
Didn't hear boo from anyone.
Now that webinar has long come and gone.

But I will try Audio Hijack when the next opportunity comes up - always good to have more than one option.

I just tried to try Audio Hijack with the application option.
Remember now what the issue was - it's much too cumbersome to use.

First of one has to quit and relaunch the application for audio hijack to record audio from it - that turned me off right away.
And then there were a whole bunch of options to set up before one can record.

May be great for some people - not for me.

Sorry for limping after the facts, krs, but have you ever heard of Sound Siphon?

https://staticz.com/soundsiphon/

It is fairly new, and I am still test driving it with a dev license. Still bugsy, but promising.

Never heard of SoundSiphon before.
Downloaded a copy
Hasd a whole bunch of comments about issues with the app the way it stands and lost them all trying to get rid of Garageband which came up automatically when I started playing the recorded file.

As you said - it has potential but needs some work with the UI and the number of audio formats it will record in; missing mp3 for instance

Here is a screenshot:

Still trying to come to terms with Sound Siphon myself.

Supported sound formats for the moment:
.wav; .aif; .caf and .m4A

Sounds resonable to me.

If only I could get it working...
