it takes a minute or 2 for my system to boot... for 1 minute or 2.. the only thing I see is the icon reading and my wallpaper...

again..it takes a minute or 2 to see my panel, my drives my toolbar...

what's happening here?

I've cleaned my cache already.. using the demo Panther cache cleaner... boot up still slow..

I need to post this help here as MacDoc might not be able to help me anymore coz of his busy sched.

Try downloading Onyx, and run all of the various maintenance & cleaning jobs...

I would go out on a limb and say that your fonts are the problem. In Mac OS X, if your Library is loaded with fonts, it seriously degrades your startup time. Even more-so if some of the fonts are broken or incomplete.

To find out if this is the issue, try moving all the fonts from your Library fonts folder (~/Library/Fonts) into a temporary folder somewhere. Reboot and see if there's an improvement.

If so, you should try using FontBook or a similar application to manage your fonts into smaller chunks. Try not to have everything active at the same time.

Let me know how it works out.

Did you once hook up to a network server? A similar problem occurs when the syustem looks (or is searching for ) that drive at startup.

Also - poke around on MacFixit. Specifically, this article from December 1.

Bonne chance, la!
