Okay, so I can't format/copy floppies on my PMac 6500 with OS9.1. Back it down to 7.5.5 it works fine... anyone encountered this - is there a known fix?

Between this and the blurry video (known 6500 issue) it makes me sad. Otherwise the machine works so well.

There's a whole page on that issue here:

I think that either updating to 9.2.2 or replacing the floppy drive was the fix.

Wow, look at all that good info. Basically it seems that USB support hoses the floppy on the 6500; and USB support starts with 9.x so 8.5 and lower work (haven't tried 8.6). Apparently though the problem is fixed in 9.2.1, which doesn't officially work on 6500 but there is a hack to make it install. So I will try that!

Thanks very much,

OK, now replying to my own post.

Check os9forever.com. Wonderful utility there to allow easy install of the 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 updates on older machines like my 6500. Seems to have resolved my floppy formatting problem. I was impressed enough that I PayPal'd the author a few bucks too.
