My iBook is being just plain weird.

I came home last night an the wife says, my book isn't working. So I try to start it and it hangs, then give the multi-lingual restart you computer screen. I try to boot off a disc warrior disc and it won't, to I boot it in target mode and run DW from my tower. It fails to repair the disc.

Today it did boot of a panther disc and disc utility also can not repair the disc. It doesn't 'see' a disc to install to. Also, it does not show up as a target disc.

Any thoughts? What is the next step? Is the HD pooped out?

Well, Disc Utility fixed it enough that it finally would boot off af the DW disc. Then DW did repair it. Yippee!!

Glad to hear that DiskWarrior saved the day, but I'd be backing up the contents of the iBook hard drive regularly from here on if I were you.

Been there, done that!

Don't worry, it is backed up, that wasn't an issue. The fact that it would not boot or be booted by disc was the troubling part.

It is still very slow to restart, I believe there is a problem.

Check how much disc space is left. I had a weird one where my drive filled up - never did figure out why.
Had to strip it off ( the copy was fine ) and reformat.

Thanks MD. I've seen that as well. It isn't the case here as there is 30Gb free.

I am just trying to move some files around (nothing important, just some video that was recently put on that isn't backed up) and it is taking f-o-r-e-v-e---r. I am trying to move 18Gb and it has taken 5 house so far and says it will take 3 more.

When that finishes I will run a hardware test, and it that comes out ok, I will reformat and re-install.

Any other thoughts?
