I am now forced to use a cheap bubblejet printer (Canon S400), and I only want to print text in black and white. I don't want to use the colour cartriges.
I can't find any switch in the OSX.3 print utility to turn off the colour cartriges, nor in the Library/Printers...Utilities folder. Currently I am printing from my Mac through a Windows machine, and the Windows machine is set up to only print in black and white.
As well: Does anybody have any advice for the most inexpensive printer set-up to only print black and white text? I will need a replacement soon.
In my Canon printer utility, There is an option check box for
printing in grayscale only.
I've used this check box in the past when I have run out of
colour, Trouble with it is that it doesn't stay checked in the
preference, So you'll need to check that box for each printing job session.

You can print in black and white only easily when you get the print dialogue box, just select 'Printer Features' from the third drop down menu, then 'Output Mode -> Grayscale'
