Hi. I have a stock G5 2.5, with 2 gigs of third party ram added, running OS 10.3.5. Transferred over my Applications and Preferences using the Setup Assistant. In the past month I have noticed several problems. I not sure if they are inter-related or not;
a) there is a particular website that will not load. Error message “Safari can’t open the page…… “The error was; ‘localized string not found”.” “Webkiterrordomain:203”.
b) I can download some files from .mac while others won’t. A Spiderman demo took me to a page that said the download was only for paid up .mac members. I was clearly logged in and the status menu showed all features as on.
c) When I tried to install the Photoshop 7.01 Update a message comes up saying the update is for a G5. There is no install option. Why doesn’t it recognize the G5?
d) The Finder>Mac Help starts to load then disappears. Help in other programs works fine.
e) I open older Appleworks documents and try to print them. When I go into Page Setup the Scale is set to various settings, 2880, 1440, 2790 and the default paper size is now A4. I change the scale to 100%, go back to the doc, but the beachball never stops spinning, have to Force Quit. It doesn’t happen with some newer Appleworks docs or with any Word docs.
Solutions tried;
a) Logged on as another user, same problem. Used my external HD as the Startup disk. Safari would now load the site in question.
b) Called Apple Support. They had me remove the preference file and reboot. This did not solve problems a, b or d. They suggested a re-install using the Archive option. This seemed to solve a, b and d for about 2 days then the problems came back. Did another Archive install. Had to remove the Help preferences and re-boot to get the Finder>Mac Help to work.
c) Downloaded the Photoshop update from the Adobe site. The install worked. Still wonder why the Apple included update doesn’t recognize the mac as a G5.
d) See b).
e) Transferred some of the AW docs to an iBook where the scale read 100%. Changed some settings. saved and transferred them back to the G5, The scale now displays as 100% on the G5 and they print ok.
Sorry to be so long winded, I wanted include some details.Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks, Glen.

since you transferred your applications from your old machine (presumably a g4) rather than reinstalling them, your installs think they are running on a g4.

trash your photoslop prefs and try to run the update. if that fails then reinstalling photoshop will surely correct the problem.
