My Epson Stylus C60 printer has begun to print poorly in black. I'm not sure if the ink is low or the head just needs cleaning. In either case, how can I tell with OS 10.3?
The printer utility has no options to clean heads or check ink levels like my old Epson 600 series did. I tried loading the Epson print utility in the Epson folder (as opposed to the Print Utility in the Utilities Folder) and I could not get the Epson C60 to display. What gives?
I've also tried fiddling with the ink cartridge and turning the printer on and off but to no avail.

The Epson utility is still pooped on my PowerBook.
But I finally got the brains enough to connect it to my old iMac and this is what happened: the black cartridge is apparently half full so I cleaned the heads. Nothing happened. I cleaned them several times. Nothing. I reset the computer and the printer. Nothing. I checked the cartridge and it seems to have ink in it but its hard to tell. Any suggestions?
Should I just try a new cartridge? (That means going and buying one.)

I had a similiar problem with my epson 740 once.
Utilities stated mostly full but cartridge had either dried up or was actually empty. Replaced the cartridge and it was fine.
I was also told to ensure that I did not leave my printer on when not in use as the ink dries up in the heads and the tips and clogs it up good and proper. Always turn off when not in use.
Are there other drivers that you need to operate your printer in 10.3 that would show all the options like head cleaning and ink left?
We were having major problems with our epson printers. I spent a good deal of time on the phone with epson support and they finally came up with the solution to our troubles. They said that there are some conflicts with the osx gimp drivers. They sent me a detailed set of instructions which fixed all the problems.
The instructions are for the 2200 but we simply substituted the other printers in the instuctions and all our printers run perfectly. If you like I can email you these instructions and you can give it a try on your printer.
