Hard Drive Icon on Desktop?

Any particular reason that my HD icon isn't showing the remaining hard disk space remaining? Just noticed that it's blank. The icon's there, nothing underneath. Probably a simple fix. Thanks for any help.

I don't get that option. I go to Finder>Show View Options>... don't see any Show Item Info.
It shows a dialog box with an option to change the text font, show icons/preview column/icon preview and arranging by name, etc. If I Control-Click-I, I see the item info but there's nothing saying how it's supposed to show in the print box underneath the icon on the desktop. Sorry, didn't fix it.

Nope. Don't see that. Something similar but not that. Is that from Lion? I have SL only, 10.6.8. No folders meaning...? If I have folders on the dock at the bottom, I need to close them? They're not open because it asks me to "open in Finder".

I'll try to link what I see here...
Anyway, thanks for helping. I must have done something silly for it to suddenly disappear. I did move some icons around on the desktop. Not sure what I did wrong.

If I may jump in a little late in your discussion

I'm running Snow Leopard so maybe this won't fit with what-ever the OP has.

I right-click (Magic Mouse) on any hard drive icon, menu appears, select "show view options".

First option in the third "grouping" is "show item info", check box.

HD name, capacity and free space is displayed

If the text is cut off (ie not enough space to show all info), increase grid spacing - same "view options dialog"

This selection affects all HD icons on the desktop

Hope this helps
